The term ''crwth'' comes from [[Proto-Celtic language|Proto-Celtic]] ''*krutto-'', meaning "rounded", referring to its bulging instrument. Due to there being no [[English language|English]] [[vowel]] letters—[[A]], [[E]], [[I]], [[O]], [[U]], and to extent [[Y]]—the word is a linguistic curiosity, even receiving the prestigious honour as [[Wordle]]'s Word of the Day once before its eventual discontinuation.
