It knows that there is no true way out-- if there had been, she wouldn't be here. But it felt hopeful, for just a second, to entertain the mind of someone who hadn't yet given in.

She knew there was no other way this could have gone. Everything had already been revealed to it once it was aware of its circumstances. 

Was it wrong for her to lead anyone else into believing what she couldn't?

Taunted by swirling illusions of freedom and choice, a sword of Damocles already dug deep into the ground, far past her head, she resigns her troubles and clings to the mountain.
