Throughout MacArtney's career, several conspiracy theorists have claimed that at one point Paul was killed and replaced by a [[doppelganger]] named Edward McCartney. Several songs in The Beatles' discography contain [[subliminal messages]] supporting this claim, with songs containing lyrics such as "We killed a man / His name was [[Better Call Paul|Paul]] / We fed him to [[The Hogs|hogs]] / Inside the mall". As soon as theorists started to catch on, Edward dropped MacArtney II in 1979 and was never seen again.
