An animation meme, formerly known as a fad, trend, or dance, is a type of animation, often featuring a creator's characters or characters from another source of media performing a dance, comedy sketch, or other action, that is replicated by multiple users across a platform.

  • The shrek walk

Tangential animation memes

  • Dance Parties - often created by an individual or a small group of animators, a dance party is a full-length animation featuring characters belonging to multiple parties, set to a single song or a mashup of a series of songs. These animations sometimes have settings, within a bar, club, rave, or other type of party, and feature the characters interacting while dancing and singing or perhaps a nerpoing.
  • Collabs - These are animation memes that consist of a collaborative effort, where artists will springboard off a portion of work done by a previous collaborator, until a finished piece is produced.
  • Chains/Base edits - An animation meme in which a basic format or set of lineart/frames is provided to any interested party to create their own version of a work, or contribute to an existing work. These can be started by anyone and consist of most anything.
