A quark is a small thing—many times smaller than even the smallest jr. pea. Quarks are never found alone, always occurring in groups called clumps. Some quark clumps are made up of two quarks (2q-clumps), while others are made up of three (3q-clumps).
Quarks come in 6 different flavors: up, down, upper, downer, uppest, and downest (abbreviated, u, d, 2u, 2d, 3u, and 3d). All of these are equally common.
