Discovering Economical Automobile Insurance was the title of a scrapped episode of Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu, which was planned to be part of Season 3 (Rebooted), and was "meant to educate viewers on selecting the right type of car insurance for their vehicle or something, I dunno," according to a storyboard artist who had worked on it. The episode had managed to get to the animation stage of production, but was canned not long after animation started, and it is believed that any animation done for this episode was simply deleted.

When asked about the episode at a convention, Kevin Hageman stated that it "[...] sucked really badly. Who would watch this? Who would willingly sit down and watch them get car insurance for an entire episode's runtime? Nothing else even happens, the plot doesn't move forward, it's just- it's just car insurance. They don't even own a Hyundai. Hyundai doesn't exist in their world. They couldn't possibly own or acquire that car. I don't even remember writing any of that episode. I know that I wrote some of it, but I cannot for the life of me remember any singular minute of writing that episode. It scares me. I'm scared of it." He also states that he "[...] doesn't even think it has any educational value. Half of the stuff brought up in that episode is just.. wildly untrue. "Getting car insurance means you'll never ever crash your car again." That's not true. That's not true at all."

Plot Synopsis

While the script and storyboards for the episode have never been fully released to the public, fans have pieced together what little scraps they have of it.

The episode mostly follows Kai and Cole as they go about getting the right insurance for their 2008 Hyundai Accord, which has never appeared in any other episodes before or after this one, and has been deemed not canon. Nothing else of note really happens, although there are substantial rumors pointing to the Geico Gecko making an appearance. This, however, has not been entirely proven.

Reason for the episode's cancellation

Those who worked on the show at the time state that the main reasons for the cancellation of the episode was that Hyundai would not give them the rights to use the 2008 Hyundai Accord in the episode, and that the episode was extremely low-quality in general.

Also I lied to you. I lied. There was never a scrapped Ninjago episode titled "Discovering Economical Automobile Insurance". I'm lying to you because I'm evil.
