The Actual Meetup

It's a trip across Japan! Why? Because all our favourite seals are there! We will be visiting four aquariums, each with their own unique stars, which we'll meet up close and personal. Sounds like the perfect trip for a true Wiki Camper!

Day 1: Arrival in Tokyo

The meetup begins. Participants outside Japan will either fly to Narita International Airport or Haneda Airport in Tokyo. There are multiple options to get to Tokyo Station, where we will meet up.

Options from Narita:

  1. Take the Narita Express directly to Tokyo Station.
  2. Take the Skyliner to Nippori Station. From there, you will interchange with the Yamanote Line and take a clockwise service to Tokyo Station.

Options from Haneda:

  1. Take the Airport Limited Express to Shinagawa Station. From there, you will interchange with the Yamanote Line and take a clockwise service to Tokyo Station.

Once we have all exchanged our greetings, we will travel to our hotel and rest.

Day 2: Jet lag

It's hard to deal with a long flight, especially overnight. This is why we'll spend another day getting some much-needed rest, just in case.

Day 3: Walking around Tokyo

We will be walking as a group around Tokyo and exploring the sights and sounds of this fascinating city.

Day 4: Shinagawa Aquarium

We will meet up at Tokyo Station and board a southbound Keihin-Tōhoku Line train to Ōmori Station. From there, we will walk to Shinagawa Aquarium and meet Fubuki, the newest seal superstar. Once we get back, if we have more time, we could explore more of Tokyo.

Day 5: Tokyo to Sapporo

We will meet up at Tokyo Station and board a Hayabusa service on the Hokkaido Shinkansen. It'll take around 3 hours to get to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station in the southern parts of the island. From there, we will transfer to the Hokuto limited express service to Sapporo, where we'll spend the night.

Day 6: Sapporo to Mombetsu

The trip across Hokkaido will be lengthy, but not too long. We will depart Sapporo on the Lilac limited express service to Asahikawa, where we will transfer with a bus to Mombetsu, by the Sea of Okhotsk.

Day 7: Okhotsk Tokkari Center and Azarashi Sea Paradise

Now that we made it to Mombetsu, we have just the right amount of time to explore two of our main destinations: Okhotsk Tokkari Center and Azarashi Sea Paradise. Both aren't too far from each other. There'll be seals, seals, and more seals everywhere we look. We'll even see the dynamic duo Agu and Hiyori! Unfortunately, Ponsuke left us too soon...

Day 8: Mombetsu to Sapporo

Departing Mombetsu, we will take the same route we took two days ago; bus to Asahikawa, followed by train to Sapporo.

Day 9: Sapporo to Osaka

It's time for the longest journey of our meetup. From Sapporo, we will board the Hokuto to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto Station, followed by the Hayabusa back to Tokyo. We'll then transfer to the Nozomi service on the Tokaido Shinkansen to Osaka. The entire journey will take almost 11 hours.

Day 10: Osaka

We have arrived in Japan's third-largest city. Today is a chill day where we explore the city of Osaka. If the meetup happened to occur during Expo 2025, we'll add an extra few days.

Day 11: Osaka Aquarium KAIYUKAN

More seals! This time, we'll be spending all day at Osaka Aquarium KAIYUKAN, one of the largest aquariums in the world and the home of the iconic trio Yuki, Arare, and Moya. Of course, being a gigantic aquarium, there'll be many other wonders too, like the constantly pogging whale sharks, the biggest fish in the sea.

Day 12: Osaka to Nagoya

After a few hours walking around Osaka, we'll take a 49-minute ride on the Nozomi to Nagoya.

Day 13: Nagoya

Another chill day, this time in Nagoya. Sit back, relax, and enjoy.

Day 14: Toba Aquarium

Today is the day we've all been waiting for. Departing Nagoya at 8:37 AM, we'll take the Mie, a Rapid service to Toba. After a 10 minute walk, we'll finally make it to Toba Aquarium! But before we meet Niko, we'll tour the other 11 sections of the aquarium. Afterwards, we'll enter Polar Seas and at long last, we'll meet Niko and his nerpa gang in person! Keep in mind that there are more seals to discover, but even then, we have all day at the aquarium before taking the train back to Nagoya.

Day 15: Nagoya to Hamamatsu

After a half-hour ride back on the Nozomi, we will arrive at the musical city of Hamamatsu, home to the Hamamatsu Museum of Musical Instruments. We'll explore the traditional and contemporary music of the world, and maybe even start a jam session!

Day 16: Hamamatsu to Tokyo

After 11 days out and about, we're on the Nozomi once again, headed back to Tokyo, where we can walk freely for the day.

Day 17: Baseball

Baseball fans rejoice! Baseball is Japan's favourite sport (overtaking sumo), and what better way to end the meetup in style than to watch a Nippon Professional Baseball game? Japanese baseball atmospheres are electric compared to MLB, with fans chanting throughout the entire game. We have plenty of options in Tokyo, such as the Yomiuri Giants, Tokyo Yakult Swallows, Yokohama DeNA BayStars, Saitama Seibu Lions, and Chiba Lotte Marines. If you're not a baseball fan, that's perfectly fine.

Day 18: Depart from Tokyo

After 17 fun-filled and okinesque days, we're homebound. Or, if you'd like, you can spend a few more days in Japan.
