Wuhu Island is a location in a multitude of Nintendo games, but most notably within the Wii Sports series. Some also consider it to be a location next to heaven, or even a character itself.

Okay, so what's REALLY going on here?

A while back, User:Noodlewaveform discovered a video essay by Nintendo Hero surrounding the topic of Wuhu Island. He greatly enjoyed the video, as someone who had grown up playing games in the Wii Sports series, but also found an aspect of the language used in the video oddly charming. The anthropomorphism of what was previously just thought of as a random island in a video game was particularly interesting. However, the video lacked proper captioning, so it proved difficult to show to other parties. He originally set out solely to caption the video, but came up with the idea of additionally deconstructing the video essay back into its original form-- purely an essay, which led to imagining how it might look adapted as an article on the Wiki Camp 2 instead.

The entire video was transcribed, with small adjustments being made to better fit the Wiki format, and uploaded on April 30th, 2023.

Reception

Wuhu Island received two emoji reactions upon publishing.

Quotes

  • "I wish Wii Fit had more activities to do on the island, because jogging is really the only one. But don't worry, because Wii Fit Island is about to transform into Wuhu Island."
  • "Jogging is back once again, and its better than ever."
  • "...in Wii Fit U, there are dogs AND cats, and there's way more of them."
  • "...the best part about cycling is that there's no time limit. You are supposed to reach these flags in as little distance as possible, but we won't be doing that. This is as close as we have ever gotten to an open world Wuhu Island."
  • "I think I prefer the good ol' Queen Peach with the red color scheme, but, I guess that's just what I'm used to."
  • "Cycling was originally added in Wii Fit Plus, but, like I said earlier, I don't have that game."
