~ is like -, but squiggly. It is often used in place of ≈ to mean "approximately". It can be used as a diacritical mark too; in Spanish it is used above n (/n/) to create the distinct letter ñ (/ɲ/). In French it has a use I think, but idk what it is. In the IPA, the ~ is used as a diacritic above vowels to denote nasalization.
In Wikitext, placing four ~s in a row substitutes in your signature with time included. Three tildes places only the signature without the time. Five tildes substitutes only the time.
