Blupi
Blupi, also known as Toto and Eggbert is the child of Daniel Roux. He is a strange yellow character who may be an Egg and was born from one too.
Blupi was in a few games and also has his own Calendar. Three, even. Blupi is yellow and shaped like an egg. There are more than 1 Blupi.
Birth of Blupi
Blupi's exact date of birth is unknown, but the earliest archived images of him date back to 1974. This means Blupi is Old As Fuck. Actually, there is an image of him alongside a Dinosaur, look over there. Dinosaurs died 66 million years ago and counting, so this means Blupi may be pre-historic. Gross!
Blupi goes Famous
Blupi had his famous debut on the covers of ELEMICRO, a journal for electronic enthusiasts. I can't find it anywhere besides Daniel Roux's Blupi webpage so it was probably local to an area in Switzerland and not famous, so Blupi did not become Famous. ELEMICRO ran from 1980 to 1983, which would be a very sad lifespan if it were a human being, pet, or perhaps a nurpoing.
Blupi Attends a Funeral
When the Blupi species heard news of the death of ELEMICRO, they were feeling two famous emotions at high level. These emotions are SADNESS, and RAGE. The Blupi would fade into obscurity until later on in history a few years later not too long later and almost immediately but not until about 5 years later.
Blupi's House is a Game
In 1988, Blupi at Home came out on one of the Smaky computers I don't know which one. Blupi was considered the mascot for the Smaky. I don't know if the Smaky version is backed up anywhere but the MS-DOS clone, released in 1995, is available. You learn the alphabet in this game so only play it if you don't know it yet, otherwise you will be spoiled on its contents.
Speedy Eggbert
Speedy Blupi, the only Blupi game well known enough to have its own English Wikipedia page, was released in 1998. It was rebranded as "Speedy Eggbert" for the eGames release in North America. It's gameplay was considered Shit. but is remembered fondly by some for its impressive-at-the-time level editor.
Speedy Eggbert's Malware
While currently unconfirmed, some people, and an article on Rock Paper Shotgun, note that the eGames release, which was endorsed by the late FOX Kids, contained hidden spyware and adware. When looking for this article while I was writing this, the Rock Paper Shotgun suddenly inflated an ad on my screen to cover the entire website and I couldn't close it, and had to refresh the page.
Other Blupi Games
A noteworthy amount of Blupi games can be found on this site, some of which are even open source.
Blupi's Awesome Calendars
Blupi has four whole calendars with quaint art pieces by Daniel Roux. They can be found on the Blupi section of his website originally dedicated to his LEGO vehicle creations, maniabricks. On the 2017 calendar there is a drawing of Blupi being given seemingly lethal injections and is bleeding so watch out for that one because it is lowkey sad. And a bit disturbing if you have phobias of needles. What did Daniel Roux mean by this?
The 2021 Calendar tells the tale of the Blupi species and a new species created by genetically modifying Blupi's, the Gobli species. They went to war, but eventually put aside their differences and became friends. The Gobli are fucking awesome.
The FUTURE of BLUPI
Daniel Roux, sometime in early 2023, released an HTML tower defense titled Bugs Defense. It is fucking badass I played it. At some point he delisted the game from his site, and added a new Blupi Games section to his website, with screenshots of a more developed version of the game, now themed around Blupi, aptly titled "Blupi is Back."
The screenshots are described as awesome, and Daniel Roux teases that they "might get even more lit later."[1]
