New Orleans is one of the most culturally diverse cities in the United States and the beating heart of its home state of Louisiana. Here in the Big Easy, French, Cajun, Creole, African, and Caribbean cultures blend together. At the heart of the city is the French Quarter, lined up with colourful buildings and the occasional jazz band.
History
The War of 1812 saw its last battle in New Orleans in what is now the suburb of Chalmette, though it would take place after the Treaty of Ghent had been signed.
Sports
New Orleans is represented in the NFL by the Saints and the NBA by the Pelicans. Another popular sporting event in the city is the Sugar Bowl, contested between two of college football's finest teams each season.
