The northern elephant seal (Mirounga angustirostris) isn't as large as its Southern Hemisphere counterpart, but its great size and fierce fighting tactics still make it a hard target of the total seal extinction event.
Males have been known to date up to 50 girlfriends per season; a well-known example of polygyny in nature.
