A zoological garden, commonly shortened to zoo, is any place that has animals (including the occasional pinniped) that is not a jungle, forest, grassland, savanna, desert, tundra, taiga, swamp, etc.

Many zoos are compact, though some, like Japari Park, are more open.

You can simulate building zoos with games like Planet Zoo.
