A first partner Pokémon, also referred to correctly as a starter Pokémon, is the first Pokémon that a Trainer owns at the start of their Pokémon journey. it's the only interesting pokemon you'll be able to get for the first like, 3 hours of the game, so I hope you like your choices!

Starters are often found in groups of Grass, Fire, and Blood type Pokemon, which the player can choose between at the start of their journey. These Pokémon are typically seemingly vanishingly rare. You are unlikely to ever find more of them beyond the initial choosening, and when you do, it is usually not in natural encounters. It is possible the professor is smuggling and poaching these creatures.

• Partner Pokémon are often unreliable, and can be almost comically weak at certain occasions.
  • This has led to a rise in unorthodox but ultimately effective optimal strategies in runs where players box or even release their starter early into the game after catching the often more effective Bug or Normal-type Pokémon.
