Hypnospace
Hypnospace was a failed sleeptime social startup that ran from 1997 to early 2000. It is notable for [ GAME SPOILERS CENSORED ].
History
In 1997, some dingdong named Dylan Merchant along with his brother Michael Bloomberg founded a tech startup called Merchantsoft. They sold a web browser called Netscape. I mean NetSettler. Sorry Netscape was by some other guys who did a better job because NetSettler SUCKED!!!!![citation needed]
Their earnings were in the absolute toilet and the company was on the verge of bankruptcy... until one fateful night, when Dylan had a most magnificent dream. In an interview from June 1999, he stated the following:
| “ | "I had a dream that some weird, smelly seal came up to me in a gigantic internet cafe and gave me an egg and a headband. It then slapped my hands together and the world unfolded on itself. I knew what I had to do.... put on the BEST TALENT SHOW THIS T--[clears throat] I mean. Create an entire new market in the internet headspace and release Hypnospace into the world." | ” | |

Not long after, he and Mike got a rag-tag team of underpaid (
) developers to develop hardware and software for this emerging technology. Finally, sometime in 1997 (I think), Hypnospace sleepwear headbands were released into the wild. They sold like hotcakes, sadly. Nobody could predict what would happen next...
How it worked
Nobody knows for sure how it worked. There are patents that exist for the hardware but I genuinely don't know how to read them. Sorry
All I know is that when you go to bed with it on, your dreams were overwritten with the HypnOS software, where you could create your own webpage and browse other peoples' webpages. The OS could also download files and could also get computer viruses.
It was rumored that during development, before the HypnOS software was finalized, sleeping with the headband on would result in what QA testers would call "a horrifying nightmare that felt like watching 50 hours of Mr. Beast videos." This was especially concerning, because Mr. Beast would not exist for around 15 years after Hypnospace crashed out and died.

Competing services
For some god-forsaken reason, sleeptime internet services continued to exist after the above incident. We can only wonder why companies would risk innocent lives on such a trend...
Dream Settler is a game. It isn't out yet (at time of writing) so I can't talk about it here yet. Sorry[wrong]
