McDonald's GameCube Kiosk

An image of a McDonald's Gamecube Kiosk running Pikmin.

The McDonald's GameCube Kiosk is a game demo unit stationed at McDonald's locations. In the present day, it is near impossible to find these units due to McDonald's rebranding strategy in 2016.

Appearance

The McDonald's GameCube Kiosk emulates GameCube games on a tiny-ass screen and comes in various colored shells. Two controllers connected by tubes jut out the front of the shell, intended for multiplayer use. In the center of the two controllers is a sketch of one of the McDonald's mascots.

History

"My body is Big Mac." - Reggie Fils-Aimé

From humble beginnings

In 2002, President of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aimé ate at McDonald's for the first time. He was so entranced by the flavors of his Big Mac he begged Shigeru Miyamoto to put Mario in their restaurants. He succeeded, and McDonald's was given permission by Nintendo to emulate demos of GameCube games onto kiosks. And thus, the McDonald's GameCube Kiosks were shipped out to restaurants nationwide. Throughout the duration of the Gamecube's lifespan, it helped restaurant revenue as kids became occupied playing video games while purchasing McDonald's fast food. A popular activity that kids would do is bet McDonald's burgers and chicken nuggets on whoever would win the next Mario Kart: Double Dash!! race. This would eventually lead to a generation of gambling addictions.

The Aftermath

This McDonald's was so desperate they had a man get in the box and act out the games for the kids.
Goodbye Reggie!

Unfortunately, the next generation of Nintendo's home consoles, the Wii, didn't translate well to the kiosk format. Reggie held out hope and begged McDonald's to try to fit the Wii into the kiosks, but patrons kept stealing the Wii remotes necessary to play the games. Towards the beginning of the 2010s, it was not uncommon to find the kiosks to be regularly out of repair. In 2016, McDonald's finally decided it would be best to retire the old kiosks with a complete rebranding. This rebranding was mostly caused by covering up the fact they taught kids to instinctively gamble their food. Most of the remaining kiosks were auctioned off. This news was so devastating to Reggie Fils-Aimé that a few years after this announcement he stepped down from his position as president of Nintendo of America, giving the position to Doug Bowser.

Reception

The McDonald's GameCube Kiosk was not connected to the internet, and therefore couldn't have any reception.

I remember playing this in my youth. I wasn't very good at the races, but I did con some of my peers out of a free hamburger! Good times.

Hmm...

Hey Gamer? Where would I be able to find "Doug Bowser"?

Oh... Bowser? He's usually at the end of World 8.

Why do you ask?

I was reading about it on The Wiki Camp 2 and I was wondering if this guy could fix it!

Wait, you've got the wrong Bow-

Thanks for the help, Gamer!
