Grapheme is an allotrope of carbon similar to graphite (a.k.a. lead) which is 1 atom thick! Although it may be thin, it is remarkably quite string. This is due to a phenomenon where materials which are naturally thinner are naturally stronger (the reason for spider silk's strength as well).
