Hey, did you know that the original description of "computer" referred to the operators of the earliest machines that were capable of computing?^[yes] The first computer scientists and programmers were therefore women, because computing was seen as a secretarial job. It's only until Bell Labs revolutionized computing as a field that it became a male dominated field, since it was seen as a science, and I need not go over the sexist nature of academia when it comes to science and technologies.

Jobs associated with women are often given worse pay and treated worse, and this distinction is made obvious when the same occupation is treated differently on a rapid timescale or across cultures. For example, college professors are made up of much more men than teachers for K-12, a woman-dominated field. Teaching college-level courses is also seen as less 'easy' to do compared to elementary-level classes.
