Sypnosis

"After a prank at Springfield Elementary School goes wrong, Principal Skinner suggests that Bart be sent to the Springfield High School to learn to prepare for higher level education. At the high school, Bart tries to fit in with the teenagers. Meanwhile, the high school's literacy club starts being hosted in the Simpsons' home."

Plot

The episode begins with Bart at school being bullied by Nelson, who claims that Bart isn't cool. Bart tries making several counterpoints that his pranks have made him the most popular kid in school multiple times, but to no avail. Bart then warns Nelson that he'll make the best prank the school has ever seen, and that he will never be thought as unpopular ever again. At dinner, Bart is complaining to his family that everyone at school can't decide whether he's unpopular or cool. Marge tries to cheer up Bart to steer him away from doing a prank, but Homer only encourages it more. Homer then suggests that he help with the prank, noting that he used to be a prankster back in the day. Bart begrudgingly accepts, but warns Homer that if the prank backfires, Homer will pay.

Homer and Bart are in the garage, coming up with several ideas on what the prank should be. After a while, they finally come up with a decision. The next day, Bart is walking towards Nelson, Jimbo, Dolph and Kearny, about to show them "the greatest prank of all time". Bart pulls out a broken remote and presses the "play" button, causing all the facility bathrooms to emit green goo. Nelson and his gang are impressed and admit that Bart really is the coolest kid in school. However, it all goes wrong when Principal Skinner pulls Bart up to his office. It is then revealed that the goo has "PRANK BY BART SIMPSON" written all over it. Bart doesn't remember writing that, but then assumes Homer must've put that down. Principal Skinner tells Bart that his parents will have a little talk.

After school, Marge and Homer are talking with Skinner, who suggests that Bart be sent to Springfield High School, so that he can understand how tough high school is, and so that he can steer away from pranks and focus more on his work. Marge is unsure about the idea, but follows if after thinking that it could be a good learning experience for Bart. Homer also agrees, because he thinks high school was the coolest thing back in the day. After Homer gets back home, Bart is angry at homer for putting a signature on his prank, but Homer explains he just thought Bart wanted credit. Bart angrily storms off before being told by Marge that he'll be visiting the Springfield High School for the next week. Bart, in a fit of anger, accidentally storms off into Maggie's room, but is too angry to turn around and go to his room.

The next day, Bart gets introduced to the high school principal, who tries to get Bart to use his creativity in a less destructive way. He gets introduced to the school's literacy club. Bart doesn't care about it, until he notices the poor state of the room. After one of the members mentions that they've been wanting to move to a new room, Bart comes up with an idea. Meanwhile, Lisa, upset that Bart somehow moved up a grade before her, is mad at Principal Skinner.

Back at the Simpsons house, Homer finds out that Bart has moved the literacy club into Homer's room. Bart tells Homer he'll only get rid of them if he can go back to Springfield Elementary School. Homer, however, in a fit of justice rage, claims that Bart will never be able to crack him. Over the course of 2 weeks, Homer's sanity slowly gets drained as the literacy club meetings only make him angrier. Homer finally caves in and convinces the school to move Bart back to the fourth grade. Bart, however, growing fond of the literacy club, tries to hide the fact that he is deeply emotionally upset about him leaving the school.
