Ashtonia

Ashtonia, officially the United Republics and Monarchies of Ashtonia, is a country somewhere in the universe. Located on a large landmass split into multiple subdivisions, most of whom are named after the main settlement of that subdivision (usually being referred to as "State of X" or having the -shire suffix added to avoid confusion).

History

Ashtonia was founded on some random morning by BlakeIsHere because he wanted a country to rule over because he was tried of current politics.

Politics

Ashtonia's head of state is the president, who is currently BlakeIsHere because he is waiting to hold a presidential election later in 2026. There's also a prime minister, but that position is vacant since there is no parliament yet.

As a federal republic comprising both republics and monarchies, each subdivision has its own head of state, whether elected or hereditary. The non-hereditary heads of state of subdivisions are usually known as Governors. However, the amount of power every subdivision has depends on how they are categorised (think how modern Russia works):

• States act similarly to US states in that they have an elected governor and a deputy governor who is either appointed by the governor or elected.
• Independent republics are granted greater autonomy and, instead of a deputy governor, they have a prime minister who acts as head of government, although the governor is still independent of the legislature, as is the president itself. It's basically a country within a country.
• On the other hand, counties have less autonomy, with there being no independent legislature with there instead being a county council. The governor is essentially a representative for the president, but is usually elected to the position.
