CoolPhone 3G plus review - Worth the upgrade?
Here at Phone Reviewers dot com - it’s no secret that we’re huge fans of the CoolTech line of products by the aptly named Cool Technologies incorporated. Despite their target market being mostly teens aged 12-17, we believe their products are well suited to internet savvy users of all ages, and their latest release, the CoolPhone 3G plus - Is no exception. However, is this updated phone worth the extra money over last years now discounted model? Read on to find out more.
The CoolPhone 3G plus largely retains the same shape and form factor of last years model, the CoolPhone 3G. Cool Technologies have been one of the first manufacturers to jump onto the 3G Bandwagon since it became available two years ago, and despite pulling it off well, it came at the cost of relatively poor battery life, for not much gain, considering not many carriers had began to start offering 3G service. This year however the service has matured greatly and many more carriers support 3G, and the SoC has gained significant upgrades, allowing for much longer battery life, even with heavy 3G data usage.
In addition to improvements with The CPU and improved 3G Support, The CoolPhone 3G Plus now comes with a massive 4.0GB of internal memory, which is 3x the amount of the previous model. It needs this, since you also get a much improved camera with a stunning 3 megapixels allowing for quality snaps on the go. This camera is mounted behind the screen again, but appears slightly larger this time.
What’s more, CoolTech have added new hardware to this model which the press release calls the “S.3.N.T.1.3.N.C.3” core, which is new technology designed to make your phone truly personal, by seeing which apps and services you use the most, and uses artificial intelligence to optimise those apps to make your experience even better.
Despite the name, CoolTech assures us this feature is merely to improve the software experience, and your phone definitely isn’t gonna suddenly come alive and start running all over the place, we hope. (Wouldn’t that be funny though?) Strangely enough, the new core is listed in the phones settings too, though for some reason this doesn’t appear to have any option to change anything about it, so it’s seemingly stuck in “standard mode”. We asked our representatives at Cool Technologies for more information on this, but they seemed unable to give us an answer as to why. Either way, this is likely one of the most compelling reasons to get the upgrade.
Along with the “S.3.N.T.1.3.N.C.3” core, the basic software has been refreshed slightly, now with support for more downloads of games, apps, themes and music directly on device using the new CoolStore app, so you can have a truly personal experience.
In conclusion, we say yes, the CoolPhone 3G Plus is definitely worth the upgrade, with all these new features, yet still having the affordable $250 price tag, you can be assured that it offers the most bang for your buck in the ever changing Cellphone market.
