Mediterranean monk seal

The Mediterranean monk seal (Monachus monachus) is believed to be the world's rarest pinniped. Fewer than 700 individuals remain in three or four populations scattered across the Mediterranean Sea. This makes it an ideal target for total seal extinction, though it would be hard to catch a rare pinniped swimming in the water, making this a tough task.
