Salamanders are a multi-limbed animal known for their fire resistance. They are speculated to originate within the Earth's mantle, rapidly cooling to become various igneous stones upon reaching the surface.

Taxonomy

Salamander taxonomy has been debated since the first specimens were collected from an undersea volcano. Due to their variable limb counts, salamanders have been proposed to be arthropods, tardigrades, and annelids. There also exists a fringe theory the specimens may simply be stones that happened to cool in a lizard-like formation, but this has largely been rejected by the scientific community.
