so uh i was inspired by scar's list of toys to make my own. now i just gotta find them
figurines
- stikbots - these little guys were essentially made for stop motion animation. i can see a pink stikbot near my office desk
instruments
not necessarily toys
- cardboard appalachian dulcimer - basically a lite version, because appalachian dulcimers are usually made of wood. also, please keep in mind that they are unrelated to hammered dulcimers, despite both instruments being zithers
- kalimba - probably made from a coconut shell. the ancestors of the modern kalimba come from africa. a prominent example is the mbira dzavadzimu of zimbabwe. i got this kalimba from a typical agricultural fair that claims to be a "world's fair" when it is nothing like the real thing
- panpipes - i got them from ten thousand villages (a nonprofit business). the ones i have are quite small, especially seeing that panpipes come in many different sizes
- qraqeb - my mom got them from morocco. qraqeb are heard in gnawa music, a genre of religious music very prominent there
- recorder - haven't used it since grade 5
- semi-acoustic guitar - i think i should consider playing it more often
- trumpet - SOMEONE RESTORE THIS THING
- upright piano - i think i should consider playing it more often as well
- wooden flutes - rarely used
