Dire wolf

The dire wolf is an extinct species of canine indigenous to North America. The original population died out around 13,000 years ago, with some scientists pointing to an "overkill hypothesis" as to why that happened.

In 2025, after some gene editing, scientists created a dire wolf–shaped wolf that is not really a dire wolf. The new "dire wolf"'s fur is whiter than the one depicted in Game of Thrones.
