Explain/NerpaPunch
Interesting... This article was awarded NerpaPunch Insightful Award! Makes you think! |
NerpaPunch is a fictional website and social media. It combines several facets of both old and modern web lore:
- NerpaPunch's culture is meant to resemble that of classic Something Awful and forum culture at large.
- NerpaPunch's "award" system is meant to resemble modern Reddit and the trope of certain websites having an abundance of reward systems.
- NerpaPunch's "package-tracking" joke is meant to embody the monopolistic nature of current tech giants, such as Google.
Awards
THE FIRST MENTION OF NERPAPUNCH WAS PIONEERED BY User:Chubs, WHO EDITED THE Evil TEAM PAGE TO SAY "THIS PAGE IS NERPAPUNCH CERITIFED"! ANYONE ELSE CLAIMING TO HAVE DONE SO IS A FRAUD!
In-universe, NerpaPunch is meant to coexist with other social media websites, highlighting their posts and facilitating third-party discussions.
Originating on the wiki's Discord and associated friend servers, it was a joke to reply to random messages with a non sequitur award message, or a highly specific award message. Once on the wiki, the joke morphed into the form of templates that could be added to the top of any page.
Boy's Love
A unique award is the "Boy's Love" award. Penned by Chubs, it follows from an in-joke about yaoi in general.
Name
While NerpaPunch coincides with the game developer Facepunch, the name is derived from an emoji based on a still picture of a trainer pressing their fist against Niko's face.
