Elite 15
I consider there to be 15 elite football teams in the world, always winning everything, and all are in the 5 most prolific football markets. Teams like Aston Villa, Celtic, Napoli, SL Benfica, and Ajax wouldn't come close. Not even Palmeiras, one of the biggest sides in Brazil, or Boca Juniors, Argentina's most popular team. They are:
- Arsenal
- Atlético de Madrid
- FC Barcelona
- FC Bayern
- Borussia Dortmund
- Chelsea
- Internazionale
- Juventus
- Liverpool
- Manchester City
- Manchester United
- Milan
- Paris Saint-Germain
- Real Madrid
- Tottenham Hotspur
The only times since FC Porto won the UEFA Champions League against AS Monaco FC in 2004 that neither of these teams won a league title were:
- Leicester City winning the Premier League in 2016.
- Olympique Lyonnais winning Ligue 1 from 2005-2008, FC Girondins de Bordeaux winning in 2009, Olympique de Marseille winning in 2010, LOSC winning in 2011 and again in 2021, Montpellier HSC winning in 2012, and AS Monaco FC winning in 2017.
- VfB Stuttgart winning the Bundesliga in 2007, VfL Wolfsburg winning in 2009, and Bayer 04 Leverkusen winning in 2024.
- Napoli winning Serie A in 2023.
