Kingfishers are a family of birds with a cosmopolitan distribution. Many species of kingfisher have bright plumage. Kingfishers live in forests near water, where they swoop down to catch their prey; despite this, only some kingfishers specialize in fishing. Perhaps the most widely known kingfisher is the common kingfisher, with its distinctive blue and orange plumage. Kookaburras are also kingfishers; they are famous for their call, reminiscent of laughter. There are kingfishers in the United Kingdom and New Cheyenne.
