An opera, literally meaning "work" in Italian, combines dramatic theatre with extravagant music. Operas are usually collaborations between a composer and a librettist. Perhaps the most prominent composer is Giuseppe Verdi, who composed the likes of La foca and L'isola dei sogni.

Notable operas

  • La foca (Italian) - In Moscow, scientists are warned about the perils of standing close to a nerpa.
  • L'isola dei sogni (Italian) - A rich man invites passersby to compete for the island of luxury, only for him to scam them.
  • Turandot (Italian) - In China, Prince Calaf falls in love with Princess Turandot. A suitor must solve three riddles in order for them to marry, or else they get executed. Its classic aria "Nessun dorma" is best experienced without headphones.
