Pearberry
Pearberries are a fabled fruit grown in pearberry groves, endemic to Pearberry Island.
Biology
Pearberries are fruits, meaning they contain a seed. Each pearberry contains a single seed. Unlike other fruits that contain single seeds, the pearberry seed is not a large rock or pit. Rather, the seed is small and cute and full of potential.
Predation
Pearberries are mostly used for culinary reasons. Every part of the pearberry is edible, and totally delish' at that. Because of this, it is highly sought after by both people and animals. Several invasive species of animals make desperate treks to reach Pearberry Island solely to snack on the angelic fruit. These invaders, however, are unable to eat pearberries in moderation, meaning just a single pest could potentially drive pearberries totally extinct. Luckily, Pearberry Island is the most isolated island in the world, so most of these pilgrimages end in death for the snackers.
Pearberries evolved to be delectable in order to appeal to the only mammal on Pearberry Island, the pearberry bear. Pearberry bears are slow eaters whose digestive tracts are specialized to allow pearberry seeds safe passage and dispersal.
Okinomics
Pearberry Island is uninhabited and not owned by anyone. Because of this, the only pearberries in circulation are those plucked by researchers, adventurers, and pirates. Most port authorities seize pearberries, meaning all pearberries available for purchase are on black markets.
