A "Delfino", a member of the species canonically named Pianta.

"The Delfinos are assholes and never belonged in the Mario universe" is a quote from the YouTube video "GAME DUDE: MARIO KART ORIGINAL REVIEW", a video also notable for the quotes "Look how much longer it takes to select Wario" and "You stupid Mii! You just had to ruin the ending, didn’t you?".

The quote erroneously refers to the Piantas that appear in the game as "Delfinos", whom originated from Super Mario Sunshine and are native to Isle Delfino alongside Nokis. The quote also makes the claim that the Pianta species is comprised of "assholes". But is it true?

Evidence supporting that Piantas are assholes

1. A number of Pianta NPCs in Super Mario Sunshine will throw Mario without his consent, potentially killing or placing him in harm's way.
2. A Pianta policeman threatens to follow mario to clean up Isle Delfino.
3. There is police in Isle Delfino. Cops are unnecessary. ACAB.
4. The judge Pianta in the game's intro refuses to hear Peach's objection to Mario being arrested after arriving to Isle Delfino.
5. The same judge locks Mario up in jail and sentences him to community service.

Evidence supporting that Piantas are not assholes

1. They were probably too mad to think about the fact that Bowser Jr. was actually disguising himself as Shadow Mario and vandalising Isle Delfino and therefore acted irrationally.
2. There are plenty of Piantas that Mario meets that are helpful to Mario.
3. The Piantas in Super Mario Galaxy 2 are not hostile towards Mario at all.
4. They make funny noises.
5. Blue Pianta can play baseball.

Conclusion

They're just people and to sum up an entire race by a few negative individuals is wrong. And they are wacky characters with simple designs, and they fit seamlessly within the Mario universe.
