A YCH ("Your character here") is a type of artwork in which a commissioner can choose from a set image or pose to have their character drawn in. These are usually initially posted as rough sketches with a loose themeing or general idea, and completed as full pieces upon payment from a customer. They are often repurposed for multiple commissioners up to a certain number of determined slots.
Pricing
Often, but not always, YCHs are priced in an auction format, with a starting sb (SB) minimum, as well as an autobuy (AB) option. It is up to the host of the YCH to decide whether to impose necessary increments between each bid, the starting bid price, the autobuy price, and any other terms about the auction and artwork. The purchasee earns the creative control to insert a character of their choosing into the drawing, but the artist is responsible for the creative work beyond that.
Controversy
Some artists elect to charge an extra tax on commissions that feature characters with complex features, such as wings or horns, or on account of the species of animal being more uncommon than others (reptiles, hippos, avians, etc.). Commissioners who have characters of these species often find this unfair, though some understand the reasoning behind it.
