Ringed seal

The ringed seal is a relative of the nerpa and, like the nerpa, is among the ugliest things ever, with their bulging eyes and disgusting odour. Its rings may be the only good thing about this disgusting little thing. The ugliness of the ringed seal, along with other pinnipeds is the reason why people are looking forward to the total seal extinction event.

Freshwater populations
Two freshwater subspecies of ringed seals exist: the Ladoga ringed seal (including Kroshik) in Russia and the Saimaa ringed seal in Finland, each named after their inhabited lakes. These subspecies are approaching critical nerpulation, which is the point where a freshwater seal population diverges into its own distinct species, a catastrophe that has only occurred once before with the Baikal seals. The possibilities of nerpulation extend beyond Eurasia, as ringed seals could wander into the Great Lakes and nerpulate there over time. Despite this, the chances are very slim, but never zero.
