The giant panda is a very lovable bear that inhabits the mountainous bamboo forests of central China, mainly in the province of Sichuan. Mind you, bamboo makes up >99% of its diet. Other bear species are mostly omnivorous, with the only exception being the carnivorous polar bear.

The giant panda is actually the second animal to be called "panda". The first was the smaller musteloid, the red panda. Thankfully, it is a bear, making it less closely related to pinnipeds from red pandas, though that doesn't mean they're off the hook either.
