Friday Night Fun Kin
About Me
My name is Rocco. Or Rocky. Or Aga. Or Aggie. Or Dragon. Or Draggie. Or Fyre. (Every dragon needs a hoard...)
I use it/its or wy/wyrm pronouns. They look like this:
- This morning, wy went to the park.
- I went with wyrm.
- And wy brought wyr frisbee.
- At least I think it was wyrs.
- By the end of the day, wy started throwing the frisbee to wyrmself.
Fun facts
- I am an actual, real life dragon!
- I actually used to own a Geocities website!
- I've never been able to find it in the Geocities archive websites (like Oocities). I consider this a good thing, because I remember being extremely embarrassing back then.
- This is my second ever website.
- This website is a mix of Geocities-inspired design, vague memories of my old website, and personal taste.
- This website was made in mid-late 2021.
- I collect, among other things: Rubber ducks, smiley face merchandise, plushies, Valentine's Day-themed merchandise (alongside my best friend), patterned button-up shirts, holiday cards, dragon merchandise (of course), and trading cards.
- I still ask for the toy prizes from the dentist.

Weblog
Welcome to my weblog! Here I will post my occasional thoughts - about stories, people, internet, identity, and of course, dragons.
2021
(undated; late?) Hello, Neocities!
I was there in the days before social media really took off. To call them the "good ol' days" would be kinda lofty. Most of what I remember is playing flash games all day and being really annoying on public forums, but I miss it sometimes. Call it nostalgia, I guess.
I always wanted to become a programmer. I wanted to impress my friends and make them think I was super smart, so I made that website and showed it off to them and offered to put their names on it. I even showed it to some people I knew in real life (good lord). Nobody wanted to take me up on the offer unfortunately (except for my still-best friend), and I never updated the website again anyways. Then Geocities shut down. So much for all of that!
Still, it was pretty cool and... creatively freeing? To be able to carve out my own little place on the internet. The styling looked like crap but I know damn well I was extremely proud of it at the time.
Some people smarter than me have written essays, posts and tweets about how social media engagement encourages outrage, or whatever. There is drama in every community, of course, I am old and wise enough to know that much. But man, social media gets a bit tiring sometimes.
It's been hard to let go of it because I've made friends on that site I don't talk to anywhere else. But still, I grew kind of disillusioned and I started realizing I had less and less to say, for fear of sparking outrage. It was time for a change. I'm not leaving social media yet, but I'm hoping to move my random thoughts to this personal website, a little space I can make my own.
Plus, I've always wanted a centralized place for information about myself, but I'm not making a fucking Carrd.

(March) Website revamp
Thanks to one of my friends, I found a workflow to editing this website that will make it way easier to update. However, it requires me to rewrite the website from scratch, so... away it goes! To be honest, I wasn't too satisfied with the style of the website anyway.
Luckily, I have a better idea for the site's layout. Most people won't notice or care, but did you know I used to own a Geocities website? In fact, I'm still friends with some people from that era! So I'm thinking of making the site a bit more "nostalgic" so to speak by going off my really vague memories of my old website. I remember it being kind of dark blue and having a "contact links" and/or a "friends" page.
(April) Dragon Cave dragons I like
I "play" this virtual petsite called Dragon Cave. It was super popular on forums back in the day; how it worked was that you would grab a dragon egg from the cave and put them in your forum signature. If your dragon got enough views and clicks, it would grow up to become a hatchling, then an adult. But if you didn't get enough clicks, the egg would eventually expire. While I definitely took part in this forum signature show-off, there were also special "click sites" that you could just dump eggs onto and it was like a free cheat code to ensuring they'd survive, so. Clicks and views don't do anything once they become adults.
There are hundreds of dragon breeds on Dragon Cave, each with a unique design and lore blurbs. There is a surprising amount of depth to some of these dragon breeds; many of them have "encyclopedia" entries with extended lore on their behavior, some of them have special breeding mechanics, some have "breed-specific actions" that do some special helpful action. There are different types of dragons (Standard, two-headed, pygmy, wyvern, etc.) and all breeds have an "affinity", representing a specific magical element that can factor into breeding. There are no limits to the amount of adult dragons you can have in your account, but there is a limit to the amount of growing dragons you can have.
Here is a list of some of the dragons I like from this game, in no particular order.
Tercorn Dragons are typically friendly and peaceful in nature. Most individuals are eager to help, and show highly-cooperative behavior. However, they can easily feel disrespected by those unfamiliar with their customs. While the three long horns protruding from their heads may be fearsome, they serve mostly to scare off aggressors, and if an attack is deemed necessary for self-defense, it is never deadly in intention. Tercorn Dragons are quite social and active within their aquatic environment, but rarely emerge on land if not caring for unhatched offspring in hidden coastal caves.
The shape of this one is very Me... If I made a Dragon Cave-sona, it would probably be this but red. Very pretty breed. I have one named Plum Peachy.
Temple Wyrms are a calm, docile, and rather amiable breed. They are quite reclusive, and rarely seen, but when encountered, will often guide travelers through their territory safely, or even advise them to the best of their ability. They tend to take up residence in ruins of old human settlements, particularly temples, and this is where the name comes from: explorers discovering an old abandoned temple, and being surprised by the wyrm living there. Theyâre very intelligent, and their two heads work well together. Temple Wyrms are skilled with light magic, and decorate their homes with glowing motes of light to keep them illuminated at all times. These dragons have a very dangerous neurotoxic venom, but are so calm that theyâre disinclined to bite except in self-defense.
The pink-purple color scheme of this one reminded me of this website's theme! Here is an example of the different types of dragons that Dragon Cave has to offer, specifically a two-headed wyrm. Like all two-headed dragon breeds, they can only breed with other two-headed dragons. I have a Temple Wyrm, but I have no idea what to name it... they also have a really detailed encyclopedia entry I have yet to fully unlock.
Coral Pygmy Wyverns are coastline vagrants, dominant in their ecosystems. They spend most of their time swimming around shallow coral atolls, snacking on the creatures that make their homes there. Donât be fooled by their small sizeâthese tiny dragons pack a ferocious punch; painful to sharks, dragons, and other substantially larger predators. They are, unsurprisingly, difficult to integrate into human society.
Have you noticed I like the color pink? Pygmy dragons are my favorite dragon type category on the entire site. This is actually an adult dragon, but all pygmy dragons have much smaller sprites than standard dragon breeds. I have one named Gumball Machination.
Nebula Dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula Dragons will be exactly the same.
Nebula Dragons have been on the site for a VERY long time - since 2010! I LOVE love love them, I wish I had more of them but I have REALLY bad luck in finding them. They have four possible colors - blue, purple, red, and green. I wanted to create a breeding line of just blue and purples, but I can never find them anyway... I don't actually have any to link here, sorry.
Pillow Dragons are covered in enormous amounts of fur affectionately referred to as fluff. Despite their deceivingly large size, they can still fly even with such tiny wings because their bodies are remarkably light. Pillow Dragons have a habit of sleeping for up to eighteen hours a day, waking only in short bursts. During their few waking hours, they take the time to hunt for prey. Once a pillow dragon becomes an adult, its fur grows very slowly. Pillow dragon fur is used to make very expensive and valuable cloth known as âdragon cashmere.â
Last but absolutely not least... my absolute favorite dragon breed of all time. Aren't they adorable? Aren't they just so great? I think I have about forty of these. Here is one of my dearest dragons, Rainbow Sponge.
That about wraps up this weblog post. Have I ever posted my first Dragon Cave dragon here? I have nowhere else to put him. His name is Slipping Hazard; he is a Frostbite Dragon.
(August) Life mini-updates
Hi guys, sorry for the inactivity. I want to update this website more often but, ehh. I would like to streamline my website editing process even more - I use a static site generator now, which makes updating and editing pages extremely easy. However, Neocities's upload is a bit... buggy? It can be really tedious and awful trying to update individual pages of the website. Plus, every time I change the layout of the website, I have to update every page, which is much worse. If anyone knows a more efficient way to upload Neocities pages (or a really cheap website host), please let me know.
Some various personal life updates for all three people that read this website:
I tried out Mastodon for a little bit. I was gonna post it on my links page, but I never got around to it. Then I fell off really hard because... one, nobody I talk to uses Mastodon. Two, people on Mastodon are intimidating. At this point, I might just be so used to not using social media that I don't know how to use it anymore. Oops.
I added a little star gif background to the website, now it looks way more Geocities-ey. I like it!
I also added a little music player. It's not autoplay (I hear this is an accessibility issue,) but I can't figure out how to get it to loop. The song is from this Sega Genesis game called Dynamite Headdy, very underrated game I used to play as a kid. It has this really cool puppetry/stage play aesthetic and a REALLY good soundtrack.
This website now has a Links page! Unfortunately, the moment I wanted to show other people the D&WD Forums that I've been using for over a decade, it shut down! FUCK!!!!!!!! Such a shame......................
...To cope, my friends are gonna host a modded Minecraft server. I haven't played Minecraft in too long - the last thing I remember them adding was horses. I worry that modded is gonna be really daunting, but I actually used to play the old Tekkit modpacks, so I've played the game modded before at least. Apparently, newer modpacks are way different now. Kind of thrilled to try it out.

(April) Moving away from Discord
I'll say it. I don't like Discord.
That's right, you can burn me at the stake if you want. (It won't work because dragons are immune to fire, anyway...) but I haven't really been satisfied with the direction of Discord lately. Or for a while. Have you seen what they've been doing to "basic" Nitro? It's pretty bad!
However, there is not... a whole lot of alternatives, unfortunately. One of my friends has suggested Matrix to me. I've also heard of Escargot and Jabber, but I don't know anyone who uses the latter two. Apparently Matrix allows you to "bridge" messages between itself and Discord to mirror message history?
I'm not gonna migrate away from Discord entirely yet, but I like trying new things. I'll probably get bored of Matrix and come crawling right back like I did with Mastodon or whatever. I'll report back with results... eventually.
