Glasgow
Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland. Once a hub of trade and shipbuilding, Glasgow is home to a vibrant cultural scene, with vibrant institutions like the Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet, and National Theatre of Scotland, as well as museums. The River Clyde cuts right through the city.
Sectarianism and the Old Firm
Unfortunately, sectarianism may still be prevalent, most notably between the two biggest Scottish football teams; Celtic FC has a historic association with the Irish people, including those in Scotland and abroad, who are majority Catholic and mainly supported Irish republicanism and socialism. Meanwhile, Rangers FC's traditional support is mostly drawn by Glasgow's Protestant Unionist communities, having British and conservative identities. The Old Firm is one of the biggest derbies in the world, reflecting and contributing to Scottish sectarianism. Both teams have a combined 108 league championships.
