Paper is Retro harkens back to the very first appearance of Paper Niko, way back during the Arcade Golden Age of Classic Gaming. In this visually primitive forme, Paper Niko lacks most of the mobility and attack options he is iconic for today. Instead, Paper Retro primarily attacks with clumps of voxels that cause splash damage on impact.

Paper Niko (1982) was the very first strand-type game, debuting for the home console Arcade Machine in 1982, and an enhanced port with all the DLC released for the Atari 2600 a year later. Paper Niko was widely panned for being pay-to-play via the use of delicious quarters.
