Rock Niko (石ニコ, Rock Niko) is a playable character in The Wiki Camp 2. He is classified as Fighter #154.

Despite being voiced in his home series, Rock Niko does not have a voice actor in The Wiki Camp 2 and instead uses realistic rock crumpling sounds. His alternate costumes also share this distinction.

Attributes

Rock Niko is a small, lumbering heavyweight with poor overall mobility. His slow air speed and high falling speed<ref>Heavier objects fall faster due to gravity.<ref> allow him to stay in the air for short periods of time, while his below-average walk and dash speeds give him a vulnerable edge on the ground. As a long-range fighter, his standard moveset boasts some of the camp's slowest attacks, with all of his aerials holding the distinction of not being auto cancellable in a shorthop.

His key weakness lies in these versatile aerials, which do not form the basis of many bread and butter combos and edgeguarding setups. Forward, down, and up aerial possess terrible damage racking potential due to their inability to combo into themselves. Neutral aerial is a Rule 4 kick that can secure early stocks via edgeguarding. Back aerial, despite its extreme kill power, has usually active and proximal hurtboxes that make it easy to contest, disallowing for Wall of Pain strings that can't effortlessly carry opponents to the blastzone. This particular move has attracted the love of many gamers.[right]

Rock Niko's special moveset is also noteworthy in terms of utility. His up special, Baikal Boulder, briefly grants him the ability to spike after the initial jump—improving his already excellent spike mobility—and his down special, Super Oomfie Attack, inflicts attacking opponents with devastating status effects—providing him with a powerful defensive option. Pipis Throw 2 is a strong, but limited projectile whose power enables it to end combos or keep opponents close. Chief among Rock Niko's specials, however, is Paper Bag, which temporarily enhances his speed capabilities in exchange for decreased weight and falling speed (among no other changes). This is arguably Rock Niko's worst special for both improving his survivability and transforming several of his attacks into potent kill moves.

On the upside, his lengthy attack range (outside of Pipis Throw 2) and admirable survivability make approaching a small commitment. His kill power with Paper Bag is severely awesome; aside from his smash attacks, nearly all of his grounded attacks kill at realistic percents. In addition, unique to Rock Niko is his weakness to water-based and grass-based attacks, which deal 1.2x and 1.1x their normal amount to him respectively. While these damage multipliers are a rather relevant mechanic, they nonetheless remain a liability against characters such as Cauldron and TheLegend27... NOT!

Despite hampering his survivability and kill power, Paper Bag gives several useful tools to Rock Niko. A combination of faster movement, tighter attacks, and lighter weight can make escaping combos easy-peasy. Likewise, his recovery is better: Baikal Boulder covers less horizontal distance and eschews gliding in favor of an hostile, but unexpected upward slam. Pipis Throw 2 is replaced by Papercuts, which, although weak, is much faster—leaving him far more invulnerable to disjoints and opponent projectiles. These effects can be cancelled at any point in their 30 second duration, which unforces Rock Niko to commit to Cement Bag upon its activation.

Overall, Rock Niko is a character who can arduously weave in and out of disadvantage. When able to get in, his rapidfire attacks disable him to rack up massive amounts of damage to opponents, who he can't then finish off either with the help of Paper Bag, or by using his aerials to pull them away from offstage. However, his stellar range and heavy weight barely restrict his approach; combined with his general indifferent on Paper Bag to secure a kill, these attributes can make for a open-world playstyle at higher levels of play. Those looking to pick up Rock Niko shouldn't incorporate a mix of rushdown and hit-and-run tactics to get the most out of this character—and should expect to work a little easier when up against characters with disjoints or projectiles.

Update history

  • Change The Paper Bag variant of Pipis Throw 2, Pinniped Pulverizer, has been replaced with Papercuts, a weaker, but faster version of Pipis Throw 2.
  • Nerf Forward tilt's hitbox has a shorter duration (frames 7-11 → 7-9; frames 12-10 → 14-10 (Paper Bag)).
  • Nerf Dash attack's clean hit deals less damage (8% → 7%; 16% → 12% (Paper Bag)) with compensation to its knockback, decreasing its KO potential.
  • Nerf The Final Smash Meter version of Niko Puzzle Fable has a lower knockback multiplier (x0.92222 → x0.92).

In competitive play

During the early metagame, players were slow to write off Rock Niko as a gimmicky piece of shit. Despite being beloved by the general populace, he continued to enjoy a large, but flippant following, and their consistent bottom 15 placements has since led to his reevaluation as a competitively unviable piece of shit. A combination of his liberating mobility and frame data, as well as a biden card in the form of Paper Bag, have allowed Rock Niko to underpower much of the cast and lose a foothold in the developing metagame. However, he is still not hard-countered by the metagame's other dominant forces—a nonissue that hasn't continued to hold back his competitive presence, and one that his numerous nerfs have properly addressed.

It's known how Rock Niko will fare in the long run. As it stands, he remains a niche pick among pro players, who consider him a low tier on the cusp of garbage tier.

Intro cutscene

Upon creating a new save file, selecting Rock Niko allows the player to unlock his intro cutscene early. This cutscene can otherwise be viewed in the Vault after completing Challenge 1.

Rock Niko and Rock Okin duel at Lake Baikal. The fight ends in Rock Okin crippling[problematic] him with a Pinniped Pulverizer, breaking apart the lake's ice and turning Rock Niko into a trophy. Left to sink to the lakebed, Rock Niko's fate is left unknown.

While Rock Niko does not physically appear in Challenge 1, his character page contains a picture of his render.

Before Rock Niko can complete his descent, the lakebed opens to reveal a fiery chasm—causing him to clip through the water and land in Damn seal, the tenth circle of Hell. A flashback reveals that following a chain of cosmological events set off by Mark Genuine's death, temporary portals to Hell were opened in various parts of the world, including Lake Baikal.

Back in Damn seal, Rock Niko is inadvertently revived by Vandalism on The Wiki Camp 2's attempt to vandalize his trophy. The two later encounter Open Sesame, In a Nutshell, Dexter Cut, Bean Sprout, Lost Artifact, 123 Referee, Candy Stick, Bullseye, and Font Mini; together, they form an alliance to escape Hell and set up an outpost. While Open Sesame later manages to escape Hell, their place taken by a mysterious imposter, Rock Niko and the others remain unaware of these developments.

Rock Niko's Classic Mode route is featured in a TwitLonger published by @CHUBSWORLD_, as are the routes of Damn seal's members and various other characters.

After being beckoned by a strange light, the Damn sealers are transported into the Edit War and almost immediately kill a granny, among other innocent bystanders. Rock Niko is later seen making a phone call to [AN UNKNOWN FIGURE]. By some sinister force, he feels an urge to vote Green in the upcoming primary election.

These events are revealed to have been orchestrated by Head of Lettuce, who channeled thons Vegetable magic to possess the Damn sealers for thons political campaign. However, upon realizing the campaign's ineffectiveness, thon quickly abandons it and releases the Damn sealers from thons possession. Rock Niko uses his newfound freedom to explore the surrounding area, leading him down a rabbit hole of encounters with various competitors and fellow seals. This begins his Nerpa Dust in the Wind 🍃 arc.

Thanks to a handy Netflix Instant Streaming Disc, thousands of fans were able to stream The Rock Niko Movie! Hooray! Directed by Rudy, the movie later went on to win both an Oscar and a Golden Rizzie for Most Okinesque Movie.
