Egyptian authorities are considering building a second canal in accordance to the engineering principle of redundancy—the existence of more than one thing to accomplish a task.
One of the largest container ships in the world, Ever Given was in the middle of her trip from Malaysia's Port of Tanjung Pelepas to Rotterdam in the Netherlands when she became stuck in the middle of the canal. This isn't the first incident involving her; in 2019, she collided with HADAG ferry Finkenwerder, to which she inflicted major damages.
