Start spreading the news, I'm leaving today
I want to be a part of it: New York, New York
These vagabond shoes, are longing to stray
Right through the very heart of it: New York, New York
I wanna wake up in a city that doesn't sleep
And find I'm king of the hill, top of the heap
These little town blues, are melting away
I'll make a brand new start of it in old New York
If I can make it there, I'll make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York
New York, New York
I want to wake up in a city that never sleeps
And find I'm a number one, top of the list
King of the hill, a number one
These little town blues, oh, are melting away
I'm gonna make a brand new start of it in old New York
And if I can make it there, I'm gonna make it anywhere
It's up to you, New York, New York

New York, also known as New York City to distinguish it from the eponymous state, is the largest city in the United States of America. It has five boroughs coextensive with their own county.

Manhattan

Manhattan is the densest of the five boroughs and the most iconic part of the entire city, coextensive with New York County, the smallest county in the state by area. Its name comes from the Wënami èlixsuwakàn term Manaháhtaan, meaning "the place where we get bows. Manhattan is home to towering marvels like the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, and One World Trade Center. Manhattan also houses the two major train terminals serving the city; Grand Central Terminal, the station with the most platforms, serves Metro-North Railroad commuter trains serving three lines with a connection to the Long Island Rail Road, while Pennsylvania Station, the busiest train station in the continent, sees Amtrak, LIRR, and NJ Transit trains shuffling more than 600,000 passengers daily. Unfortunately, the latter's former building was demolished to make way for the city's main arena, Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Knicks and New York Rangers. The Stonewall Inn, a pivotal location for the LGBTQ+ rights movement, is located in Manhattan, while Statue of Libery is not too far away. Central Park with its zoo is a popular place for a quiet getaway, while the Metropolitan Museum of Art showcases artworks from around the world. Manhattan is also home to the HQ of the United Nations, Columbia University of the Ivy League, and New York University of the University Athletic Association.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn is the most populous of the five boroughs and the westernmost part of Long Island, coextensive with Kings County. It was named after the Dutch town of Breukelen, it was founded by Dutch settlers. The Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges serve as iconic gateways to the borough. The beaches of peninsular Coney Island are surrounded by amusement parks. Brooklyn is home to the Nets and the 99th Precinct.

Queens

Queens, coextensive with Queens County, was the host of the unofficial Expo 1964. With it came numerous landmarks, from the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows–Corona Park to the late Shea Stadium, the former home of the New York Mets, who now play at Citi Field. Meanwhile, Arthur Ashe Stadium is the principal of the US Open, TikTok's favourite tennis tournament. Queens is also home to New York's two biggest airports, the larger John F. Kennedy International Airport and the smaller LaGuardia Airport. Flushing Chinatown (法拉盛華埠) is one of the fastest-growing Chinese communities outside of Asia, while Addisleigh Park Historic District is home to single-family homes between 90 and 110 years old.

The Bronx

The Bronx, coextensive with Bronx County, is most famous as the home of the New York Yankees. It also has the Bronx Zoo, the largest of the five zoos in the city, Woodlawn Cemetery, Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Bay Park, the New York Botanical Garden, the Bronx Museum of the Arts, and Co-op City, the largest housing cooperaative in the world.

Staten Island

Staten Island is the southernmost of the five boroughs, synonymous with Richmond County. The North Shore, home to the St. George Theater, is the island's most urbanized area. The Staten Island Ferry connects the island with Manhattan.
