Suriname
Suriname is the smallest sovereign state in South America (French Guiana exists, yet it is a territory controlled by France). This Dutch-speaking nation is known for its natural beauty and the capital Paramaribo's wooden cathedrals.
Language
Suriname is the only country outside of the Netherlands whose prevalent language is Dutch. There are other countries, however, that predominantly speak languages derived from Dutch; Afrikaans is a separate language that stemmed from Dutch that is commonly spoken in South Africa and Namibia. There are also Dutch-based creoles, though all but two are extinct (one if Petjo is confirmed to be extinct).
