It's important to note that Niger is pronounced "nee-ZHAIR" and was named after a river, the Niger River, which ironically starts a mere 150 miles from the Atlantic Ocean at Sierra Leone before crossing Guinea, Mali, Niger itself, Benin, and Nigeria before entering the ocean.
