Serbia is a Balkan country that is known for its beautiful food and culture. Its capital Belgrade is a notable hub for nightlife, and is home to the fourth-largest Orthodox church in the world. Serbia is the second-youngest country after South Sudan, becoming the modern Republic of Serbia in 2006 after the split with Montenegro.

Sports

Football and basketball are the most popular sports in Serbia. Games are characterized by some of the loudest fans in Europe. Two big Belgrade-based clubs dominate the country's sports scene: Crvena zvezda (meaning "Red Star") and Partizan.

Serbian sports stars are cherished across the country, from top basketballer Nikola Jokić to tennis star Novak Djokovic.

Science

Nikola Tesla and Milutin Milanković are among the many Serbs who have played a major role in scientific development. And while Milanković cycles are a well-known concept, Tesla is more famous for his contributions to alternating current systems.
